Age 21 – 71 for Scooters, Motorbikes, Quads, Cars & Vans. If you are over 18 however under 21, you can rent a 50cc 1-seater (no passenger)
Most requirements depend on how old you are, where your licence was issued & the laws in that country. In some countries, you are allowed to drive a 50cc holding only a Car (B) licence

Malta ‘s category description is listed below:

  • AM- 50cc
  • A1- 125cc
  • A2- Motorcycles of a power not exceeding 35 kW
  • A- Motorcycles. (generalised)
  • B- Car & Quad

In most cases, we pick up clients from their location and drive them to our office in Sliema from where they will rent the required vehicle. In some cases, this is not possible and we offer delivery of the vehicle to the required destination.

Pickups & drop offs come at an extra cost depending on the area (each way):

  • Sliema FREE
  • Valletta €10 (not incl. Port)
  • Central €15 – per vehicle
  • Airport €25 (pick up) €20 (drop off)
  • St Pauls / Qawra / Bugibba €25 – €30
  • Mellieha / Cirkewwa €30 – €35

Yes, you are required to wear a helmet by law. We include 2 helmets with every required vehicle.
Insurance: All Scooters, smaller motorbikes & Quads are third-party insured. The client is responsible for the bike in the case of an accident, capped to €2,000.

General Terms & Conditions

 

Driver’s age: 21 to 75 years

Customers who fall outside the age limitations will not be able to hire a Vehicle.

Categories on license:

Driver’s license:

Drivers must hold the correct category to the vehicle they wish to rent.
If your driver’s license is not in the Roman alphabet (i.e. if it is in Arabic, Greek, Cyrillic or Chinese) you are required to bring an International Driving Permit and your domestic license. For driving licenses from countries not part of the international driving license treaty, an official translation of the license must be presented with the original license.

Deposit & Credit Card Information – Accepted: MasterCard, Maestro, Visa (not debit or prepaid) No other payment types accepted.
A valid credit card in the name of the lead driver must be presented at the rental desk in order to pre-authorise/block a security deposit. The credit card(s) must be embossed, and a PIN number may be required.

In the event that you fail to present a valid credit card, there is a lack of sufficient funds available on the credit card or the credit card is not in the lead driver’s name, the car rental agent may refuse to release the vehicle. In these instances, no funds paid will be reimbursed.
In the case of Debit & Credit cards, authorisation holds can fall off the account, thus rendering the balance available again, anywhere from seven (7) to Thirty-One (31) business days after the transaction date, depending on the issuing bank, and their policy. Holds on Debit cards may be released sooner.

The Rental Agency will not be held liable for any funds not released by the clients issuing bank. 

 

Insurance Coverage:

Fully Comp – Collision damage waiver on Cars (CDW): (includes tax); Security Deposit & Excess 600 EUR
Less Liability Waiver Package Cars: 15 EUR per day. (includes tax); Security Deposit & Excess 200 EUR

Fully Comp – Collision damage waiver on Vans (CDW): (includes tax); Security Deposit & Excess 700 EUR
Less Liability Waiver Package Vans: 20 EUR per day. (includes tax); Deposit & Excess 200 EUR

Fully Comp – Collision damage waiver on Honda CBX500 (CDW): (includes tax); Secuirty Deposit & Excess 500 EUR

Fully Comp – Collision damage waiver on ATVs 250cc & 450cc (CDW): (includes tax); Security Deposit & Excess 500 EUR

Fully Comp – Collision damage waiver on Vespa Primavera 125cc (CDW): (includes tax); Security Deposit & Excess 500 EUR

Third-party liability protection (TP): (Includes tax) on all Scooters & Motorbikes  (not mentioned above) Security Deposit / Excess on all Scooters 350 Euros & Motorbikes €500 – 700.
Security Deposits are accepted as the full sum in Cash, OR the first €150 as a pre-authorisation on a credit card & the rest in Cash. Drivers’ liability on all Third-party vehicles is capped at 2’000 Euros.
The Excess and Liability is the amount determined by the car rental supplier for which you can be held liable in case of damage/theft of the vehicle. Damage to or loss of tires, windscreens, glass, and undercarriage are not covered by the CDW (Collision Damage Waiver).

 

Waiver: applicable on all vehicles

An additional €100 Fee (per vehicle) to drop damage Liability & responsibility to €0, With only a €100 refundable security deposit required in the case of Citations.

Mileage Policy:

Special Equipment/Optional Extras:

X2 Helmets are included in all Rentals,   Phone holder (On request),   Booster seat: 5 EUR per day (On request),   Child toddler seat: 5 EUR per day (On request),   GPS: 7 EUR per day (On request)

Conditions of Optional Extras:

Please note the following: The price of optional extras is subject to change without notice. Optional extras are subject to availability. Charges made at the desk may be subject to local surcharges. Any damages of extras are to be paid in full by the driver/client.

Additional Driver:

Additional drivers can be added to your rental for a charge of 5EUR per day. Includes 18% tax.

Test Drive Your Vehicle:

All vehicles are to be test driven prior to leaving ST Rentals booking office. The driver/liable person agrees the Vehicle is in good working condition & drives straight, without any indication of pulling to any given side.

Travel Restrictions:

All international crossings are disallowed. Vehicles are restricted to the islands of Malta & Gozo. Drivers/clients take their vehicle to Gozo at their own risk. Our insurance company does operate their towing service in Gozo, in the case of an accident or mechanical failure, however, you may be charged additional fees on the Gozo Ferry, any incurred fees will be the driver’s responsibility. ST Rentals is not responsible and not liable for the time wasted returning back to Malta (even if to exchange the vehicle) and will not offer any refunds of the rental fee.

Assisted Towing Service:

If a tow truck is required for any reason, be it mechanical failure or an accident, the responsible driver must remain with the vehicle until the tow truck arrives. If disobeyed the client loses any rights for refund, compensation or a replacement of the vehicle.

Rental Periods:

The minimum Rental Period is 1 day (Maximum of 24 hours)
Pick up is available from 08:30AM – Latest Same day Return time is 18:30PM
If the client returns the vehicle later than the return time stipulated on the agreement, the driver/client will be charged an additional 1-day fee. The signing of agreements and vehicle checks take on average 30 minutes.

Maltese Roads: €100 Penalty

All vehicles are to be used only on Tarmacked roads and NO vehicle is to be used Off- Road. There is a €100 fee for anyone caught irresponsibly using any vehicle, this includes driving off-road.
All vehicles are allowed to be driven on all roads. There are CVA charges for entering the centre of Valletta.
Most parking is public, public parking is displayed with a White Box (NOT yellow or blue/green)
Still, be aware of signs displaying parking restrictions on certain dates and within certain times.

Quad Bikes Engine Checks on Return:

The exterior of the Quad Bike will be check on return, however any possible internal & unforeseen damage to the engine and mechanism due to misconduct and/or mistreating the vehicle, will be checked & cleared by our Mechanic the following day. ST Rentals company limited holds to right to contact the client & hold them liable, post return of vehicle if any damages are found.

Steering Lock: €100 Penalty

If ATV/scooter is found not on steering locked while rented, the vehicle is at risk of being stolen, for that reason ST Rentals co ltd have the right to void the contract without a refund of the rental fee & add an applied penalty of €100.00 to the liable driver.

Wet Seats: €150 Penalty

If any Car or Van is returned with wet seats there will be a €150 cleaning fee.

Long Let clause: Rental exceeding 30 days

All Scooters have a mileage noted under the seat. Once it is reached, the vehicle must be returned for a Service. Lack of responsibility from the driver’s end, for not bringing the vehicle for service by the milage listed, ex: general damage, including damage to the engine due to a lack of servicing, will fully be the liability of the official driver listed on the rental agreement. 

Fuel Policy: Pick up & Return FULL (€5 Fee)

Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. To avoid incurring fuel charges, you will need to return it with the same amount of fuel as it had when you collected it. You may be required to leave a fuel deposit reserved or charged on your credit card, this will be released or refunded when you return the car full. Missing fuel will be charged on your return. The price per litre charged by the rental agent may be significantly higher than the price at the local service station. A €5 re-fuelling charge will be applicable. Fuel charges are payable at desk.

Citations:

As the vehicle/s are registered under the company. Therefore all citations must be settled by the client to the rental agency. The driver/client does not hold the right to request to pay any citation/s personally and must settle the citation fee and an additional €5 in administration charges, with the rental agent at the desk prior to departing.

Vehicle types:

The vehicles displayed, and the models listed are the most common vehicles used by our car rental partners. We cannot guarantee the make or model of the rental vehicle will be the same as the vehicle displayed on our website.

Tax Rate:

18% – Included in the rental price.

Fees:

Please note credit card fees apply. Fees vary per card type, please check with the supplier at the desk.

Form of Identification:

A valid Driving License.

Voucher:

A printed version of your voucher must be produced upon arrival at the rental desk. Failure to present the voucher means the car rental agent may charge you at the local rates. Please note: We are not responsible for overcharges on rentals where the voucher was not presented to the local agent on the collection of the vehicle. If you do not present the required documents, the documentation is not valid or you do not have enough funds on your credit card, the car rental agent may refuse to release the vehicle and no funds will be reimbursed.

Cancellations, refunds & No-Show Policy:
What is your cancellation policy for Fully pre-Paid bookings?

1- If you cancel your booking up until 7 days (168 hours) prior to your rental, we will refund the full amount, lessor a €50 fee. If your online payment is less than €50, no refund will be made for your Vehicle hire booking.

2- If you cancel your booking within the last 7 days (168 hrs) OR fail to cancel your booking no refund will be issued.

3 – All cancellations should be made on our online portal OR with an ST Rentals co ltd agent.

4 – In the case, you Cancel your booking you will receive an email to confirm the cancellation at the email address you have provided during the online booking process.
The hire company reserves the right to refuse the rental without REFUND, if the driver fails to arrive on time and/or in the event that the driver fails to provide the documentation that is required to pick up the vehicle and/or a credit card with enough available funds required for the Security Deposit.

 

Refund:

Under NO Circumstances does ST Rentals co ltd offer any refunds once the rental has commenced. If your vehicle stops for any reason, we will exchange it for another vehicle depending on the availability at the time.
